Artist of the Week 39
Ronald J. Tinney was born in 1958 in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, and is a graduate of Penn State University and Ohio Northern University Law School.
Following a full career as a lawyer, Tinney decided to pursue art later in life, and is now a full-time artist focusing on landscape painting, spending much of his time painting coastal landscapes and marine scenes in oils. He paints on-location year round, studying nature and creating source material for his larger studio paintings.
Ronald J. Tinney’s signature landscapes highlight the beautiful coloring effects that sunsets and sunrises have on the coastal region he is surrounded by. Painting on location, Tinney spends much time in these environments, and often catches boats coming in at the end of the day, under the blanket of soft warm sunsets. Vibrancy and tranquility pair well in the striking yet serene compositions he manages to capture.
Tinney is a Signature Member of the American Society of Marine Artists, a Professional Member of the International Society of Marine Painters, a Juried Member of the Copley Society and a past President of the Cape Cod Art Association.
He has had his work juried into shows at the Guild of Boston Artists, the Mystic International Marine Art Exhibition, the Ventura Maritime Museum, the Coos Oregon Art Museum, and the Oil Painters of America National Exhibition in Sage Creek, NM. He has also had one person shows at the Cape Cod Museum of Art and the Cahoon Museum of American Art.
Tinney is currently represented by fine art galleries in Florida, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Virginia, and Wisconsin. He resides in Cape Cod with his wife, where he spends much of his time painting outdoors.
