While many of his extraordinary works are portraits, David Hatfield is also a highly accomplished plein air painter. Using masterful brushwork reminiscent of the early American impressionists, he creates windows into the idyllic countryside and other hidden corners of nature. He captures rural villages and farms of upstate New York and New England, as well as the quaint seascapes and towns of the coasts of the region. Hatfield's sensitive portraits are also greatly admired. Painting outdoors year-round in the varied weather of the northeastern United States, Hatfield creates rich impressionistic works often including emotive figures.
Hatfield earned a B.F.A. from Miami University in Ohio and studied at the School of Visual Arts and the Art Students League. He has won over 100 awards, including the Hallgarten Prize from the National Academy of Design, and is listed in "Who's Who in American Arts," "The Dictionary of International Biography," "Men of Achievement," and "Artists USA." Hatfield currently lives and works in Hoosick Falls, New York.
